Hooping up for machine embroidery

Precise hooping techniques could well be the key aspect for producing a quality embroidery designs project. When I purchased my first embroidery machine I’d not a clue how to hoop effectively. In those days there would be not a lot of information on the web. I am one of those people who seriously isn’t inclined to read a guide unless I come across problems, Nevertheless I have just read through the guide for my very first embroidery machine and the instructions for hooping are vague to say the least.

Appropriate hooping can appear quite challenging to begin with, but with practice you’ll turn into very swift at getting the item into the hoop and creating outstanding embroidery.

To begin with try and judge how firm your hoop ought to be to cater to your project; you will get improved at this with more experience. Now cut a piece of stabelizer bigger than the embroidery hoop, lay this over the lower hoop, now place the item you would like to embroidery over the stabelizer. Occasionally you may want a few layers of stabelizer. Make sure that the fabric is nice and straight and even but don’t stretch it. Place top of the hoop over the top and push it into place. this will likely require a little pressure. Don’t pull the fabric once it is in the hoop this could certainly distort the fabric and affect the placement of your design, it’s also preferable never to tighten the screws once the project is in the hoop as this can pinch the fabric. If it is not properly adjusted remove the project and begin again.

Once the project is hooped effectively you will be able to run your finger on the fabric without it moving or rippling, then again if you have hooped it to tight it can “burn” the fabric, this can not be restored. If you have not hooped appropriately it may cause bad registration while stitching. You could end up with your design in one place and the outline elsewhere entirely. A great digitizer will ensure that the stitching layout is appropriate so that outlines wind up where they should be however , if bad hooping can cause a good embroidery designs to appear a mess.

When embroidering onto a garment that needs the hoop and stabelizer to be placed inside garment, like a tee-shirt or even the leg of jeans, an effective tip is to use some masking tape to fasten the stabelizer to the bottom of the hoop. This can just pop off when you push the upper hoop into place but it will save you precious time needing to chase the stabelizer around in the garment.
